Slot car racing tracks are a vital important of slot car racking. In this hobby, small electrically powered cars are raced side by side. Each car has a small fin or blade which projects beneath the car. This blade fits into a corresponding slot on the slot car tracks. An electrical transformer provides low voltage direct current to the grooves on slot car racing tracks. The blades beneath the cars transfer this power from the slots to the small electric motors within the cars. Variable speed handheld controllers allow the racers to change the speeds of their cars on the slot car racing tracks.
Beginner's slot car kits usually come with standard slot car racing tracks. These tracks are usually an oval or a figure-eight shape. Both tracks have certain similarities and differences. The oval slot car racing tracks have sharp curves on the ends separated by long straightaways. The figure-eight tracks are like the oval slot car racing tracks, except that the straight sections cross in the middle. This configuration gives the possibility of the slot cars actually colliding in the middle of the track. These standard slot car tracks are good set ups to learn how to race a slot car.
Once a racer masters the standard slot car tracks, he could try more varied patterns. Additional track pieces can be purchased and added to existing slot car racing tracks. The straight track sections can be made even longer. The curves can be made wider and longer. Additional figure-eight sections can be added for the possibility of more collisions on these enhanced slot car racing tracks. When building new slot car racing tracks, the design is limited only by the size of the room and the budget. When purchasing new track pieces, be sure they are compatible with the existing slot car racing tracks already owned.
There are slot car racing tracks that mimic real world raceways. These track kits can be bought and assembled exactly like the standard track that came with the beginner's kit. Once assembled, the racers can replay famous races from history on their scaled-down slot car racing tracks. The racers might even purchase scale model slot cars that match the cars of the race being recreated. However, the outcome of the race on the slot car track will probably be different from the real race.
Slot car racing is fun, and using expanded slot car racing tracks is even more fun. Track pieces can be purchased from hobby and toy stores. Parts for slot car racing tracks can also be purchased online. When you are expanding existing slot car racing tracks, be certain that the track pieces you buy are compatible with your existing set.
