NASCAR Slot Car Racing Lets You Race With The Pros
![]() |
Nascar slot car racing is a very popular trend in the slot car racing world. NASCAR is short for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. The three largest NASCAR racing series are the Craftsman Truck Series, the NEXTEL Cup, and the Busch Series. Scale models of NASCAR racing cars on NASCAR tracks have all the thrills and spills of real NASCAR racing. Of course slot car racing puts you in the drivers seat.
NASCAR slot car racing fans often have real model tracks and slot cars in their homes. There are toy companies that cater to this crowd. For example, the SCX NASCAR Original Slot Car Race Set contains two NASCAR-themed slot cars and more than 16 feet of track. This NASCAR slot car racing track is not a replica of a specific track. Instead, it incorporates NASCAR features taken from real tracks plus features to make slot car racing more fun. The NASCAR slot car racing track in the SCX set is a tri-oval superspeedway with three banked curves. It also includes two track crossovers which allow the cars to change lanes to the other slot. The latter feature simulates the pushing and bumping of real NASCAR action.
An interesting NASCAR slot car racing accessory is the Digital Pit Box. This piece of track is attached inline with the slot car track. It includes a straight piece of track along with a side road for the pit stops. The Digital Pit Box allows racers to monitor fuel consumption, and it causes cars to slow down when it estimates they are low on fuel. It even invokes a penalty if your NASCAR slot car racing vehicle enters pit row too fast!
NASCAR tracks are standard ovals between 0.5 and 2.5 miles long. It is relatively easy to recreate these tracks using standard NASCAR slot car racing track parts. That is why the toy manufacturers concentrate on providing realistic NASCAR car models with the fancy speedway track configuration. NASCAR fans love to pretend to drive the Kasey Kahne #9 car, the Jeff Gordon #24 car, or the Jimmie Johnson #49 car. It is the ability to simulate real races and drivers than makes NASCAR slot car racing so appealing to racing fans of all ages. These special NASCAR slot car racing sets and their accessories can be expensive, but cost is no object for a true racing fan.
