Having Loads Of Fun With Slot Car Racing

Slot car racing is a very popular hobby, especially for those who are interested in racing cars. Slot car racing involves scale model cars which are raced around a special track. Th e special track is flat and wide and built so that slot cars race side by side. The track has a thin, deep groove in which the slot cars race. The grooves run the entire length of the track. The slot car runs in the track using a small blade or pin under the car. The blade slots in the groove and keeps the car on the track and supplies power to the car at the same time.

Slot cars are usually scale models of existing cars. They will have the same characteristics of full size racing cars in shape and features. The power is fed to a small electric motor which is inside the slot car. The motor propels the slot car around the track. The electric power is fed from the electrically charged track to a blade beneath the slot car and then to the motor which drives the rear wheels.

The track slots get their power from a transformer. As slot cars are small, they do not have batteries. The transformer power pack gets its power from an AC source. The transformer than converts AC into direct current (DC). DC voltage powers the slot cars. DC current is safe and does not put any of the participants at risk.

Hand held controllers are used to control the slot cars around the track. The controllers are fun and pistol shaped with a trigger control. The trigger controls the amount of power that is fed to the slot car. As the controllers control speed, the racers can accelerate and decelerate the cars as required. Beginners sometimes use full power all around the track. However full power will cause the slot car to fall off the track when going around corners.

Slot car racers have a lot of fun racing their cars and competing. There participate in slot car competitions and even recreate famous races. Slot car racking is a skill that develops over time. The skill is in keeping the car on the track as it goes around the curves. Racers often have to learn the tracks so they know when to accelerate down straights and brake around curves. Slot car racing is fun and a growing hobby which can be enjoyed by persons of any age.
